Ready for Work
A four-part workshop series to help you find and keep a good job
Join Takoda’s career counselors and adult education instructors to learn how to get started in your first career or your new career. Through this supportive education series, you’ll learn how to write a dynamic résumé, use online job search tools, communicate effectively in the workplace, and identify unique strengths that will get you hired. You can complete the series altogether, or take only the workshops that interest you most. Classes, lunch, and resources like bus cards and grocery gift cards are provided free to students.
Understanding Your Strengths
Friday, May 20, 10am-1pm
Students will complete an assessment to discover career interests and will learn how to identify unique strengths that will help them get hired in the field of their choice.
Understanding What’s Out There
Friday, May 27, 10am-1pm
Students will learn how to use online job search tools and will start to build a résumé that will stand out. Employers will share their career journey story and teach students about career opportunities in targeted industries.
Workplace Communications: A How-to-Guide
Friday, June 3, 10am-1pm
Learn how to communicate effectively with a potential employer or current supervisor. Students will gain an understanding of employer expectations and learn how to deal with conflict in the workplace.
Landing the Job
Friday, June 10, 10am-1pm
Learn how to ace job interviews in-person and online. This workshop will cover interview etiquette and students will have a chance to practice what they’ve learned with staff and one another.
